There will be a number of food favorites, including The Lion’s pork chop sandwiches, Gilmart’s
Polish specialties, beef and sausage sandwiches, corn on the cob, ice cream and more. The Beer
Tent is always a popular place to socialize and once again ‘DJ Mike” returns to entertain. The Car
Show will again feature TV coverage from Bill Wildt’s Motorsports Unlimited.

The following week, on Saturday, August 14, the Village Center will spotlight the Inaugural
International Chili Cook Off from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Don’t miss some of the best chili you’ve ever
tasted served up by an assortment of top-notch cooks from Chicagoland and across the country.
Register today and see how your batch stacks up against the best. International Chili Champ, and
one of Willow Springs’ own, Maureen Barrett, is chairing the event. You won’t want to miss it.
A great day of food, a DJ, and a variety of contests including: Frozen T-Shirt, Bean Bag Contest,
Cutest Baby (under 2), and a Bike Decorating Contest.

It’s hard to believe but this May 2nd marked the 20th anniversary of popular local restaurant,
Greco’s. After learning the family business at their Evergreen Park location, which opened in
1975, Carmalee and Michele Greco brought their successful business recipe to Willow Springs in
1990. Stop in to check out the new furniture on the deck as Greco’s returns to serving food and
beverages outdoors this summer. Besides a charity fund-raiser to benefit Children’s Diabetes, the
Greco family plans to offer a special discount coupon for local residents as a thank you for your
support for the past two decades. Look for the coupon in the fall newsletter.
Congratulations and best of luck to four new businesses opening this summer: the 2 BICI Bike
Shop on Archer, Dead Serious in the Old Willow Shopping Center, and Gilmart Foods and the
Chicagoland Electrical Industry Credit Union in our Village Center. I hope to have an update on
each the in the next newsletter.

Thank you to all who volunteered in our Annual Clean-Up Willow Day. A special thanks to Public
Works Director John DeHaan and Lynn Floss who coordinated the event. Another thank you goes
out to Bruce and Irene Haugen and Park Committee members and volunteers who hosted a very
successful Pancake Breakfast. Volunteers are the backbone of any community. We are fortunate
to have those who donate their time and effort for all the events that make Willow Springs a great
place to live.

Best Regards,

Alan
