06 Nov 09 – Speeding Leads to Arrest for DUI

At 2:23 a.m., an officer conducting radar, observed a vehicle traveling on LaGrange Road and the vehicle was doing 62 in a posted 45 zone.   As the officer attempted to stop the vehicle he observed it weaving in and out of traffic.  Upon stopping the vehicle and speaking with the driver the officer observed signs of impairment and observed the passenger passed out and covered in vomit.  An ambulance was called to attend to the passenger, and the driver agreed to perform field sobriety tests which he failed.  he was arrested and taken to the station where he submitted to a breath test indicting an alcohol concentration of .118.  The 33 year old man from Oak Lawn was charged with Speeding, Improper Lane Usage, operating an Uninsured vehicle, Driving While Under the Influence of Alcohol, and Having a BAC in Excess of .08.  He was released after posting the required bond given a court date in Bridgeview.

 

06 Nov 09 – Business Charged With Selling Tobacco to Underage Juvenile

Officers conducting random checks of local businesses used a male juvenile to attempt to purchase cigarettes at the Citgo which is located at 8369 Archer.  The juvenile attempted to purchase a pack of cigarettes and the clerk asked him for his identification.  The juvenile complied handing over his driver’s license.  The clerk looked at the license and then sold him the pack of cigarettes.  The 28 year old male clerk from Oak Forest was cited for Sale of a Tobacco Product to a Minor.

 

06 Nov 09 – Speeding Leads to Arrest for DUI

At 1:26 a.m., an officer running radar observed a vehicle traveling 63 in a posted 45 zone on LaGrange Road.  As the officer attempted to stop the vehicle it pulled onto the shoulder and then back onto the roadway.  When the officer activated the siren the vehicle pulled onto the shoulder and then back onto the roadway before finally stopping.  Upon contact with the driver the officer observed signs of impairment.  The driver submitted to field sobriety testing which he failed.  he was arrested and taken to the police station where he refused any further testing.  The 38 year old male from Orland Park was charged with Speeding and Driving While Under the Influence of Alcohol.   He was released on bond and given a court date in Bridgeview.

 

07 Nov 09 – DUI Arrest Lead to Weapons Charge

At 2:32 a.m., officers responded to a call of a possible DUI Vehicle traveling South on LaGrange Road.  They located the vehicle and observed the black Dodge Charger cross the painted lane marker several times.  Upon stopping the vehicle the officer detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage and observed signs of impairment.  The driver agreed to perform field sobriety tests, which he failed.  The 39 year old man from Chicago was arrested and taken into custody.  While conducting a search of the vehicle incident to the arrest, the officers located a loaded Glock semi-automatic pistol under the driver’s seat.  The man was transported to the police station where he refused any further testing.  A check of his criminal history indicated that he was a convicted felon.  The State’s Attorneys Office was contacted and approved complaints for two counts of Aggravated UUW and Felon in Possession of Weapon, as well as Improper Lane Usage, Improper Parking, and Driving While Under the Influence of Alcohol.  He was held pending a morning bond hearing.

 

07 Nov 09 - Rock Damages Car Window

At 10:45 a.m., a resident living on Chaucer Drive, reported that during the overnight hours, an unknown offender used a rock to break out the side tail light of his 2001 Taurus.  The resident felt that this could be in retaliation for him testifying against an individual in criminal court.

 

11 Nov 09 – Deer Crashes through Resident’s Window

At 10:06 a.m., officers responded to a home on Scenic Drive after a woman reported that she observed a deer charging at her front window.  The deer crashed into the home and then ran through the house and crashed out through the patio windows.

 

14 Nov 09 – Erratic Driving leads to DUI Arrest

At 12:23 a.m., an officer traveling on LaGrange road was almost sideswiped by another vehicle.  upon pulling behind the vehicle, the officer observed that it kept crossing the lane divider marking on both sides of the center lane.  Upon stopping the vehicle and speaking with the driver the officer detected signs of impairment.  The driver submitted to field sobriety testing and failed.  The 42 year old man from Chicago was arrested and taken

to the station where he submitted to testing that revealed an alcohol concentration of .156.  he was charged with Improper Lane Usage, Operation of Uninsured Vehicle, Driving While Under the Influence, and Having a BAC in Excess of .08.  he was released on a recognizance bond and given a court date in Bridgeview.

 

14 Nov 09 – Driving on Flat Tires Leads to DUI Arrest

At 4:23 a.m., an officer observed a vehicle traveling southbound on Wolf Road with two flat tires on the passenger side and the front tire worn down to the rim.  The officer observed the vehicle proceed west on German Church Road crossing the center line several times and stopped it.  The driver submitted to field sobriety tests which he failed.  The man was arrested and taken to the police station where he submitted to a breath test indicating an alcohol concentration of .235.  he was charged with Improper Lane Usage, Operation of an Uninsured Vehicle, Driving While Under the Influence of Alcohol, and Having a BAC in Excess of .08.  He was released on a recognizance bond and given a court date in Bridgeview.

 

16 Nov 09 – Driving on Flat Tires Leads to DUI Arrest

At 2:22 a.m., officers were dispatched to check for a vehicle that was driving south on Archer with two flat tires.  An officer observed the vehicle and stopped it in the lot of the 7-11.  Upon exiting the vehicle, the driver stumbled and had obvious signs of impairment.  He submitted to field sobriety testing which he failed.  the 21 year old man from Downers Grove was arrested ad taken to the police station where he submitted to a breath test indicating an alcohol concentration of .237.  he was charged with Use of Unsafe Tires, Improper Lane Usage, No Valid Drivers License, Operation of Uninsured Vehicle, Illegal Transportation of Open Alcohol, Driving While Under the Influence of Alcohol, and Having a BAC In Excess of .08.  he posted the required bond and was given a court date in Bridgeview.

 

 

17 Nov 09 - Improper Lane Usage Leads to DUI Arrest

At 12:59 a.m., an officer observed a vehicle on LaGrange Road cross the painted line several times.  Upon stopping the vehicle the officer observed blood on the drivers face and clothing.  The drier refused medical attention and indicated that he had been in a fight at a bar in Berwyn.  The driver submitted to field sobriety testing which he failed.  The 42 year old man from Chicago was arrested and taken to the station where he submitted to a breath test indicating an alcohol concentration of .164.  He was charged with Improper Lane Usage, Driving While Under the Influence of Alcohol, and Having a BAC In Excess of .08.  He then began to complain that his injuries were bothering him and he was taken to the hospital.

 

27 Nov 09 – Tailgating Leads to DUI Arrest

At 12:25 a.m., an officer observed a vehicle tailgating his vehicle as he traveled on Archer.  The officer further observed the vehicle cross the center line 3 times and then slow to 15 mph in a 35 zone.  Upon stopping the vehicle the officer detected signs of impairment.  The 59 year old man from Bridgeview was arrested and taken to the station where he refused to take a breath test.  He was charged with Following Too Closely, Improper Lane Usage, and Driving While Under the Influence of Alcohol.  He was released on a recognizance bond and given a court date in Bridgeview.

 

01 Dec 09 – Seat Belt Violation Leads to Cannabis Charge

At 9:39 p.m., an officer stopped a vehicle because the driver was not wearing his seatbelt.  Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer detected the odor of burnt cannabis.  Further investigation resulted in the seizure of a small quantity

of cannabis and a glass pie.  The 28 year old man from Berwyn was charged with Possession of Cannabis, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Failure to Wear his Seatbelt.

 

02 Dec 09 – Theft from Vehicle

At 9:04, an officer responded to a home on 84th Place to investigate a reported theft.  A resident advised that during the overnight hours, an unknown offender gained entry to his unlocked vehicle and removed the JVC Stereo/CD from the vehicle.

 

05 Dec 09 – Theft

At 10:52 p.m., an officer responded to the WillowBrook Ballroom to investigate a reported theft.  Between 4:00 and 10:00 p.m., an unknown offender entered the office area and removed approximately $1,800 in USC.

 

06 Dec 09 – Traffic Stop Results in Cannabis Charge

At 11:36 p.m., an officer stopped a vehicle in the 8400 block of Archer for traffic violations.  Upon approaching the vehicle he detected a strong odor of burnt cannabis.  Further investigation revealed a small quantity of cannabis and that the driver had a suspended driver’s license.  The 19 year old male from Burbank was cited for No rear Plate Light, Driving While License Suspended, Operation of Uninsured Motor Vehicle and Possession of Cannabis.

 

08 Dec 09 – Suspicious Vehicle Leads to Arrest

At 1:56 a.m., an officer observed a suspicious vehicle in a parking lot in the 8000 block of Archer.  Upon stopping the vehicle the officer spoke with the driver and observed a strong odor of burnt cannabis and obvious signs of impairment.  The driver submitted to field sobriety testing which he failed.  The 22 year old male driver was arrested and was taken to the police station where he submitted to a breath test, but refused a drug test.  During an inventory search of the vehicle, officers discovered a metal container containing suspect cannabis as well as a glass pipe.  The driver was charged with Driving While Under the Influence of Drugs, Possession of Cannabis, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  He was released after posting the required bond and given a court date in Bridgeview.

 

08 Dec 09 – Criminal Damage to Vehicle

On date, a resident on 84th Place reported that between 6:00 and 9:00 p.m., an unknown offender had thrown a large rock through the rear window of their 1991 Pontiac.

 

09 Dec 09 – Speeding Leads to DUI Arrest

An officer conducting moving radar patrol on Archer observed a vehicle traveling at 59 mph in a 45 zone.  The officer also observed the drier commit lane usage violations and stopped the vehicle at 76th and LaGrange.  Upon speaking with the driver he observed signs of impairment.  The driver attempted field sobriety testing but after a hard time with the first test, she refused any further testing.  The 40 year old woman from Palos Hills was arrested and charged with Speeding, Failure to Signal When Required, Improper Lane Usage, and Driving While Under the Influence of Alcohol.  She was released on a recognizance bond and given a court date in Bridgeview.

 

10 Dec 09 – U-Turn Leads to Heroin Arrest

At 9:19 p.m., an officer stopped a vehicle for making an illegal U-turn in violation of posted signs.  Upon stopping the vehicle, the officer learned that the driver had a suspended license.  An inventory search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of five plastic bags containing suspect Heroin.  The 51 year old man from South Holland was charged with a Felony count of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Improper U-Turn, No rear registration light, and Driving While License Suspended.  He was held pending a bond hearing in Bridgeview.

 

12 Dec 09 – Possession of Cannabis

At 9:31 a.m., officers responded to the call of the suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of Gas City.  Upon approaching the vehicle they detected the odor of burnt cannabis.  A 19 year old man from Chicago and a 19 year old man from Calumet Park were each cited for Possession of Cannabis.

 

13 Dec 09 – Speeding Leads to DUI Arrest

An officer monitoring traffic on Archer clocked a vehicle traveling at 60 in a posted 45 zone.  Upon stopping the vehicle and speaking with the driver, the officer observed signs of impairment.  The driver submitted to field sobriety testing and failed.  the 27 year old man from Chicago was arrested and taken to the police station where he refused a breath test.  He was charged with Speeding and Driving While Under the Influence of Alcohol.  He posted his license and the required bond and was given a court date in Bridgeview.

 

22 Dec 09 – Attempted Business Burglary

At 11:02 p.m., officers responded to an activated burglar alarm at the Citgo Station at Archer and Nolton.  Upon arrival they found an open door on the west side of the building where the offender(s) had used and axe and sledge hammer to break off the lock of the door.  Officers also observed footprints in the snow indicating that the offenders had fled over a fence and going in a westerly direction.  The key holder for the business arrived and confirmed that nothing was missing from the business.

 

28 Dec 09 – Woman Saved after Jumping from Bridge

At 4:18 p.m., officers responded to the Willow Springs Road Bridge for a person that had jumped off of the Bridge.  A 21 year old female had jumped from the bridge and was floating in the Sanitary and Ship Canal.  Responding personnel went down to the canal bank and scaled a fence to reach the woman who had floated to the south bank.  They formed a human chain to reach the woman and then attached a rope around her.  The woman was pulled from the water and then fire department personnel used bolt cutters to cut the fence to allow her to be moved from the bank.  She was treated at the scene by paramedics and transported to a local hospital.

 

 

 

30 Dec 09 – Ruse Burglary

On date, officers took a delayed report of a residential burglary at a home on High Street.  Officer spoke with the son and daughter of the 95 year old female resident and advised that on 29 Dec 09, the woman answered the doors and was the victim of what is typically referred to as a gypsy scam.  One male posing as a utility worker distracted the woman while another offender ransacked areas of the home.  The victim was missing $400.00 in cash, $20,000 in savings bonds, and some additional bank records.  The one offender was described as being a male/Hispanic, short stature, and clean shaven.  The vehicle used was only described as a dark green or blue older model van.
